Educational Plays

The Rainbow Repertory Company now features dozens of social issue plays that are available for school performances in Stark County and surrounding areas.

Social Issues covered include:  Anorexia, Drug Abuse, Teen Fathers, Teen Mothers, Living with Disabilities, Recovering from Mental Illness and many more.

Social Issue Plays Available for School Performances

Who Am I? -  ANOREXIA
Meet Madison, her family and friends, to experience how eating disorders affect her and those around her.  Male correlations also explored.  Middle school -College

Ready or  Not  -   TEEN FATHERS
Teen fathers in denial, then learning their loss of rights.  Characters range from complete responsibility for the child to complete irresponsibility.  High school

Babies Having Babies -  TEEN MOTHERS
Five young high school students meet in a class for pregnant teens and share their stories.   Every kind of situation is examined from rape to deliberate pregnancy.  Alcohol abuse also touched upon.  Middle-High School

What’s the Difference?  -  ATTITUDES TOWARDS DISABLED
With a cast whose members happen to have disabilities, this unique play raises awareness and knowledge about a sensitive subject.  This play can be applied to differences of any kind.  Middle school – College – Community

The Fences Between -  BIOGRAPHICAL PLAY
The story of Dr. Norma Marcere, a prominent black educator and activist in Canton. A  play for all ages and cultures.  This play has played to over 12,000 students in northeast Ohio.   Elementary- College   – Community

Playing the Character  -  CHARACTER COUNTS
Six teens explore the character traits of the Character Counts Curriculum and how to relate them to their peers.  Can be adapted to any values programming.  Middle school –High School

A Work in Progress  -  RECOVERY FROM MENTAL ILLNESS
Written in collaboration with persons recovering from mental illness, raising awareness about recovery rates and Stark County’s advanced programming for mental health needs. High School – College – Community

A Sweeter Way  -  MINORITY HEALTH ISSUES – Diabetes
Meet a three generation family as they deal with the results of poor medical practices.   Video

Revealed Secrets –  COLORECTAL CANCER
A recent widow meets with friends after her husband’s funeral to discuss the circumstances of his death.  The deceased husband is also part of the cast.  High School – College – Community

My Choice – Myself – CAREER CHOICES
Students choosing a career, or life path  are  the focus of this play – diverse casting. Audience interaction.  Elementary-High School

Arts, Why and Why Not? – VISUAL – DANCE – DRAMA – MUSIC
Artists representing all genres meet (O’Keeffe/visual art – Marie, Nutcracker/dance – Peter, Peter and the Wolf/music – Scrooge – Christmas Carol/drama) to interact with the audience and talk about their talents.  Pre-School, Elementary

Feeling Good – DRUG ABUSE PREVENTION
Trad lands  on earth from another planet to learn what earthlings do to ‘feel good’ because inhabitants of his planet have forgotten how.  He meets Chris who tells him that drugs can be used to feel good.    Elementary

The New Barnyard  -  THE U.S. CONSTITUTION A play explaining the Constitution using barnyard animals with audience interaction….discussion following the performance.  Elementary
