An Historic Chat Returns

LISTENING IN….An Historical Chat returns on February 23 in Canton.

Featuring:  Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Mahalia Jackson, Susan B. Anthony, Malcolm X, Dorothy Wright and W.E.B. DeBois.

LISTENING IN…An Historical  Chat will have its third annual performance February 23rd at 7 pm at Cable Recital Hall in the Canton Cultural Center 1001 Market Avenue North.  This play was originally commissioned by COMING TOGETHER STARK COUNTY and written by Lois DiGiacomo, playwright/founder of the Rainbow Repertory Company.

“We can best learn about history from those who made it,” states DiGiacomo, “and listening in on their conversations gives a perspective not possible with internet searches, lectures or slide shows.”  Those chatting together in this play are Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Mahalia Jackson,  Susan B. Anthony, Malcolm X, Dorothy Wright and W.E.B. DeBois.  They lived between 1809 and 2010, giving their chat  an extremely wide range of historical anecdotes that could not exist in any other type of presentation.  Lincoln tells Martin Luther King, “You brought freedom to your people.” King replies, “So did you.” and  Lincoln says, “But I did it with rivers of blood.”  A discussion with the actors and playwright will be held after the performance and Study Guides will  be made  available.

Tickets are $5 and may be reserved  by calling 330.454.5880.  Student rates are available.
