Since 1994, Kathy Mitchell and Lois DiGiacomo, have created community events for entertainment, for education and to benefit worthy causes. Their first production inspired the creation of the RAINBOW REPERTORY COMPANY, a non-profit theatrical touring company.
Their newest production is an original musical entitled, “The Caravan of Gospel”, which will be performed on June 29, 2012 at the Canton Palace Theatre.
THE CARAVAN OF GOSPEL tells the story of Albertina Walker, dubbed the “Star maker and the Queen of Gospel Music”. Great artists such as Sam Cooke, James Cleveland, Aretha Franklin, Shirley Ceasar, Dorothy Norwood, Inez Andrews, Cassietta George, Loleatta Holloway, and Donny Hathaway are a part of Albertina’s story and will be included in the performance.
Three causes will benefit through this original musical: An Elementary School in Haiti – Community Outreach for Positive Alternative Training (COPAT), and The Rainbow Repertory Co.
In 1994, Lois DiGiacomo wrote a biographical play, THE FENCES BETWEEN, about Dr. Norma Marcere, who was portrayed by Kathy Mitchell. This play toured for several years in northeast Ohio to audiences totaling 12,000. Shortly after this premiere, DiGiacomo and Mitchell formed the Rainbow Repertory Company, as a non-profit theatrical touring company.
Rainbow Productions include entertainment for all ages, as well as educational programs and social issue plays serving all community sectors. Clients include northeast Ohio school districts (elementary through college level), community and social service agencies. A majority of the educational programs are original works commissioned by clients and written by DiGiacomo and Mitchell.
